Why Polln exists

The people around you — on your street, in your neighborhood, at the event you're standing in — have things to say, and no easy way to say them to each other.

Not to the whole internet. Not tied to a permanent profile that follows them forever. Just to here, now. So we built a tool for exactly that. Open Polln and you're dropped into conversation with whoever's in your local hive — the cluster of map-hexagons around you, roughly a few miles across. Say something. Read what others are saying. When you close the app, it lets go of you.

We're not trying to build the next billion-dollar app. We're trying to give a community a way to talk to itself.

Your privacy isn't a setting. It's the whole point.

Most apps ask you to trust them with your identity — and then quietly spend that trust. Polln is built so there's nothing to spend.

• Anonymous by default.You're a random handle you can throw away and remake at any time. No name. No account to track down. No you-shaped file.
• Nothing personal — not even to us.We don't ask for your identity, and the system is designed so our own servers never hold it. What we don't have, we can't lose, can't leak, and can't be forced to hand over.
• Ephemeral by design.The conversation in your area fades on a rolling clock. No permanent history. No archive of something you said on a bad day.

What everyone else is doing (and why we won't)

The usual deal: an app is "free," so you are the product. It watches where you go, who you talk to, what you linger on. It builds a profile of you — your habits, your politics, your purchases — and rents that profile to whoever pays. Your identity becomes inventory.

Polln does the opposite, on purpose. We collect as little as is physically possible, tie it to no one, and keep none of it around. That choice has a cost: it means we'll never sit on the pile of personal data that makes an app "worth billions."

Good. We'll stay small. Small is the point — this is about a community, not a valuation.

So how do we pay for it all?

Fairly — and locally. We don't sell you. We sell proximity.

A café, a bar, a shop, a food truck can light up a hyper-local beacon: a small offer or deal that appears to the people who are literally right outside, right now — already nearby, maybe already in the mood to walk in. No tracking. No profiles. No net cast across a whole city hoping to drag someone in from across town. Just: "here's a deal, and you're standing right here."

It's advertising that respects everyone. The business reaches real, present customers. You only ever see something relevant to where you already are. And nobody's identity is bought or sold to make it happen.

The community funds the app through its interactions with the community. That's the whole model — it keeps Polln alive without ever turning you into the merchandise.
